  • Post category:News

At a time when regulatory requirements and consumer expectations in terms of responsible formulation are constantly increasing, we are proud to announce the excellent results achieved by our CosmeGreen PCMB hair conditioner in an aquatic ecotoxicity test.

A striking ecotoxicity result : EC50 (72h) > 100 mg/L

In compliance with OECD 201 standard methods and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), we carried out an algal toxicity test to assess the potential impact of CosmeGreen PCMB on unicellular microalgae in an aquatic environment.

Result : an EC50 greater than 100 mg/L, well above the thresholds for classification as a substance hazardous to the aquatic environment according to European criteria (CLP).

The EC50 test, how does it work ?

EC50 (Effective Concentration 50) is the concentration of a substance that causes a 50% reduction in the rate of algal growth compared with the reference over a 72-hour period. The higher this value, the less toxic the substance is for the aquatic environment.

As a reference :

  • EC50 ≤ 1 mg/L : very toxic to aquatic organisms (Aquatic Acute 1) – Exemple : BTAC
  • 1 < EC50 ≤ 10 mg/L : toxic (Aquatic Acute 2)
  • 10 < EC50 ≤ 100 mg/L : harmful (Aquatic Acute 3)
  • EC50 > 100 mg/L : not classified as acutely toxic under the CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging — CE 1272/2008)

👉 CosmeGreen PCMB easily passes this standard, confirming its highly favorable ecotoxic profile.

An eco-designed ingredient for sustainable hair care

CosmeGreen PCMB is a 98% natural conditioning agent, specifically developed for hair care applications (creams, masks, leave-ins, etc.).

Its advantages :

  • Very high naturality : 98%
  • Excellent sensoriality in haircare formulations (stable emulsion, rich, sensorial texture)
  • High concentration of active material to lower formulation costs
  • Remarkable ecotoxic profile, part of a green chemistry approach to reducing the environmental impact of finished products.

A transparent regulatory and scientific approach

This algal ecotoxicity test reinforces CosmeGreen PCMB’s technical and environmental dossier. This result demonstrates that it is now possible to offer cosmetic ingredients that are both effective and safe for the aquatic environment.
